Flexible working in New York

My husband has been offered a job in New York. We’d like to move there with our three kids (8,4 and baby). There are plenty of opportunities through my employer to work there too, but I’m unclear about flexible working opportunities. Ideally I’d compress hours and work four long days but I’m not sure if flexible working even exists in the US! If anyone has heard of any other flexible working patterns in the US, it would be great to hear about those. I can obviously speak to my work when we are a little further along the process but was hop to do a little research first. Thanks!

Most places are open to working from home, but it is in no way as flexible as the UK. We insisted on keeping our uk holiday when we moved because US holiday is so awful. Sick benefits and maternity are also woeful.

Yes be wary of annual leave in US companies - most places it's only 2 weeks a year and little to no sick pay. If you can negotiate a UK package for there that's your best bet!

Can't comment on flexi working I'm afraid. Try googling and see if any articles come up?

Thanks @SiaPR and @Ginfilledcats.

I work for the UK government so hoping I can take UK holiday entitlement with me. Would definitely be a bit of a nightmare otherwise. Definitely no more babies here and we're going to wait until my maternity leave is up before we move.

I think my best bet might be arranging wfh on a Friday. It is still a bit daunting imagining working everyday when littlest is so small. Going to try to swing a half day on a Friday too but probably pushing it!

I know it will depend on the workplace a bit but do you find the days are long? I think I'm just going to really need to force myself to leave on time.

Are you living in the US now? Did you move with kids? If so, was the move successful?
