Am I ok to be annoyed!

So I had an interview last week for an internal position at my company. I feel the interview went well but you can never really tell! At the end they said that I would hear back from them 'by next Friday' (so today)

So far I've heard nothing at all. On a Friday everything closes early so it doesn't look like it's going to happen today at all. I'm frustrated as everything depends on whether I get this job or not! I'm presuming I haven't got it because I haven't heard but I feel this is really poor for an internal candidate and that I should be kept up to date in the time frames they have given!

Should I be annoyed by this or is it a case of I need to get a grip!

I'd call HR to chase up. There is no harm in it. Possibly waiting for the first choice to accept before telling others they've not got it but it could be other reasons for delay. I was told once I'd hear within 10 days. Called HR at 9am on day 11 and they called back an hour later to offer me the job, so it works both ways

I think in the current climate it will take longer and in any climate it's not unusual
