Sick Leave help please?

I became ill and so called in sick on this day (Wed) however I was asked to stay home for the remainder of the week due to potential Covid (I knew it wasn't as the reason I was ill is an ongoing issue) however I understand the organisations need for me to stay home.

I was sent for Covid test (Sat) which was negative.

I returned to work Monday and I requested annual leave for the (wed) to mitigate the loss of earnings I would incur, which was granted and I was given sick leave for the remainder however on my employee record they have reported 3 days sick absence even though it's technically 2 days sick leave. Surely this should be reported as 2 days sick absence?

note: I have used A/L previously to cover a sick day and this wasn't reported as absence on my record.

Surely the Wednesday should be sickness and the other days unpaid or annual leave.

I wouldn't think it matters which of three days I take use the A/L just don't think it should affect my absence record by showing 3 days off instead of the days off

True, why weren't the other days granted as annual leave?

Astrid84 · 26/05/2020 13:49

I didn't request to use A/L for the full 3 days just the one day.

It's really important that sickness absence is recorded accurately. You were not fit for work the three days so that needs to be recorded. The fact you used annual leave in order to ensure you got paid shouldn't skew your sickness record.

They may also be able to claim sick pay back from the government as it was Covid related (isolating whilst awaiting test results).
