hi,
I did work for NHS Direct Once, as a nurse advisor, I left after 8 weeks as i missed patient contact. Also found it difficlt with the shift work.Shifts were 7 am till 2 pm, or 2pm till 22.00hrs, including 3 out to 4 weekends.
However they have a very good training system in place and willingly agreed to pay me at the top level of my band.
The nurses that stayed, are quite happy working there, and once you get over the training, which is about 4 weeks, you begin to work on your own more or less as a nurse practitioner.
