Was I cheeky to ask? Redeployment related.

I am band 2 admin in the NHS.

We have received an email asking people to volunteer for Covid 19 assist redeployment.

As I live a fair distance away from the hospital I work at, I have asked if I could be redeployed to anybof the hospitals closer to home (there are four hospitals in the Trust).

My manager says she’s happy to put me on the list for this, but other people seem to think I’m being cheeky.

Having said that, they live close to the hospital I work at, and have been there for much longer. I’ve only been there six years, having worked at one of the hospitals closer to home before then.

Was I cheeky to ask?

No, absolutely fine to ask.

*any of, and asked as in volunteering.

@daisypond, thanks. It’s been on my mind consistently.

I have no idea why it would be cheeky to even ask! Confused

Apart from being perfectly reasonable and sensible for someone to want to work closer to home if this is available, aren’t we supposed to be minimising travel anyway?!

I know @flowery, I was a bit taken aback that people thought I was being cheeky. I thought, well, less traffic, nearer home, helping another dept. Everybody wins.

All I can think of is that they forget that not everyone has the luxury of working near the workplace....

Probably. Lots of people are narrow in their ‘field of vision’. You are doing the right thing. Worst case scenario they say no, and no one has lost anything by you asking! It’s fantastic you’re volunteering to help with this.

Of course it's not cheeky. The offer was made and you asked. It would be cheeky if you demanded it above others or kicked up fuss if it wasn't granted but it's not cheeky to ask.

Thanks for volunteering Flowers

Only 6 years?! Public sector makes me laugh sometimes.
