I'm on AML until end of October but have decided to hand my notice in as after childcare costs I'd be working for peanuts.

I am owed 10.5 days holiday and want to end my employment at the end of September ( need the holiday pay for a holiday)

Have tried writing the resignation letter but it seems very disjointed.

HELP !!

Keep it brief - just state the facts - no waffle about what a great/awful place it was to work.

Check your financial liability carefully. I'm entitled to a good maternity leave package but if I don't go back for at least 12wks will have to repay some of the maternity pay I've received. I know of someone else who got caught out this way so be careful!

Definitely be brief, presumably you will have a chat with your boss anyway, so the letter just needs to cover the formalities.
Something like

I regret to inform you that I have decided not to return to work following my maternity leave. Please consider this my (1 month, or whatever it is) notice.
I understand I am owed 10.5 days holiday. I should be grateful if you would confirm how I will receive payment for these days, and also confirmation of what my last day in employment will be.

Kind regards

fleacircus - not lucky enough to work for a company with a maternity package - only received basic OML pay

fbb - will have to speak to my boss unfortunately! We had a fall out whilst i was pregnant and he didn't speak to me for 5 mths - only called me in to clear the air on my last day. makes the situation a bit awkward

devonsmummy sorry just come back to this, if you've gone hope it went well.
At least the air had been cleared, could be worse!

fbb - just got back.
My boss wasn't there but as soon as I got there one of the Directors called me in to see what was happening regarding my return to work.

So now they know & I didn't have to speak to my boss. Just waiting for them to try & wriggle out of the holiday pay now.

I'm the 1st person to be pregnant at the company so they don't have a clue.

Hiya, glad it went ok. Well if they try and get out of the holiday pay you know where to come and we'll sort it
