Hi - I know there have been discusions about this recently but I cannot find the info I want on searched threads. I am really interested in persuing this as a career and am considering doing the nct course but I have a mortgage to pay so would need to maintain a certain income each week. How much work do you / could you get? What is current rate of pay and how does this increase (yearly?) I have seen various figures talked about, are these pre tax?
Thanks for any advice!

you could contact your local branch of the NCT for more info, i think that work would vary region to region...harpsichordcarrier and girrafeski are NCT teachers, you could search for their names ....

Thanks - I have got info from nct but they do not really give much indication of volume of work and they don't give current rates of pay. Looks like a great job though - I would love a job I could feel passionate about.

You would be working on a self employed basis. The volume of work varies from branch to branch and can also be seasonal.

thanks islandofsodor - so being self employed I would be paying tax on amounts earned, so where people have quoted £15 per hour then really this would be nearer to £10 "take home pay". Why is it seasonal?

Pay betwenn £15 -£30 more in London. I could teach all week if I had the time usually x2 weekly.
Great enjoyable job. We have 4 enquiries for each class place. You can travel to otherplaces and teach for them too.Go for it training takes 2 years dip ed via luton.

Hi galaxy - thanks for that. Do you do 2 evenings? Is it mostly evening classes that are in demand? What do you think is maximum number of hours that someone could realistically teach in a week?
Which area are you? I am Northants.
