Holiday entitlement

pumpkintree · 26/02/2020 21:14

I work 36 hours per week.

I work Monday and Friday 9-5.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9-4.30.

Total 36 hours. Full time is 37.5 hours.

We are also given an extra 5 days ( pro rata) if part time.

I have also purchased 36 hours as extra for the year.

Holiday year is January 1st to December 31st. I have been here years just changed my hours .

I am classed as part time now and holidays are in hours.

I have been given 179.5 hours. I think this is wrong but work assure me this is correct.

Could anyone advise on how best to work it out?

Thanks,

How many hours holiday do full time staff get?

chuffincold · 26/02/2020 21:19

Government holiday entitlement. You enter how many hours a week and how many days and it tells you basic entitlement so this would be your minimum without your extra.

dementedpixie · 26/02/2020 21:20

It doesnt sound quite correct though as minimum would be 5.6 weeks worth of your hours which would be 5.6 x 36 = 201.6 hours and that's not counting extra hours you have bought or the extra days you get for being part time

DivisionBelles · 26/02/2020 21:22

That sounds too little. 36 hours per week worked out as annual holiday entitlement in hours comes out at 201.6. Full time at 37.5 hours a week would be 210. This is without your extra days.

pumpkintree · 26/02/2020 21:29

Thank you for all the replies. Very kind and helpful.

Full time are given days not hours and I think it is 28 days standard and we were given 5 days extra a year if full time.

I thought at a minimum it should be 201.6 ( without extra) used the Goverment website. I just wanted to see what other thought before I ask for a breakdown.

You are correct. 36 x 5.6 = 201.6.

The 5.6 is the magic formula to use. Full time is 5 days x 5.6 = 28 days.

dementedpixie · 26/02/2020 21:38

So full timers get 33 days in total and work a 7.5 hour day?
33 x 7.5 = 247.5 hours holiday
36/37.5 = 0.96 of full time
0.96 x 247.5 = 237.6 hours holiday

Kissmycousinkate · 26/02/2020 21:50

Have they deducted bank holidays?

Forrandomposts · 26/02/2020 21:54

OP have they calculated it based on you having an unpaid lunch hour?

pumpkintree · 27/02/2020 20:13

Thanks again for the replys. I have requested a meeting on Monday to get it looked over.

I have 30 minutes for lunch. Everyone is the same.

I think because I work every day and only an hour shorter than full time a week it's causing confusion, I am classed as part time.

From the hours I was given for leave this year I didn't need to take bank holidays off as they have done that, I think.( Getting this checked in meeting)

Yes, full timers get 33 days. 28 standard and 5 extra ( Plus what they purchase)

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 27/02/2020 20:19

Do they take 60 hours off for bank holidays? (7.5×8)
237.6 - 60 = 177.6
Still doesnt take into account the 36 hours you have purchased

dementedpixie · 27/02/2020 20:29

Actually 1 BH was a Wednesday so they would deduct 59.5 hours

237.6 - 59.5 = 178.1

Maybe someone better check my maths!

When it comes down to it you are entitled to 33 days holiday like full timers but some of your days are half an hour shorter than others.

FunnyInjury · 27/02/2020 20:34

You should have 212.66 hours holiday plus bank holidays (of which you have already had 7 hours on 1st Jan).

5.6 x 36 hours standard hols
Plus 36 x 0.96 extra days pro rata
Plus 36 purchased

Is 272.16
Less 59.5 for 7 Mon/Fri bank hols and 1 Weds

Leaves 212.66 'bookable' hours.
Smile

reginafelangee · 27/02/2020 20:38

There is no need for them to give you holidays in hours.

As you work 5 days, if you wanted a week off you would use 5 days leave.

And this 5 days extra for being full time is dodgy. Part time staff should get a pro rata share of these extra 5 days.

If you are not satisfied after your meeting on Monday do give ACAS a call.

Working out leave entitlement for part time staff is a very common area for errors and misunderstandings.

dementedpixie · 27/02/2020 20:42

I agree that if you work 5 days then you get 33 days holiday plus the 36 hours you purchased.

pumpkintree · 27/02/2020 23:24

Thank you all. You have given me the confidence and answer Wink I need to back up what I mean.

Just to be clear part timers do get a pro rate of the 5 extra day, thought I had mentioned that.

I will update as soon as I can after my meeting.

12.07% min

nsav · 29/02/2020 18:28

Do the government holiday entitlement tracker

dementedpixie · 29/02/2020 18:30

That tracker only gives minimum entitlement whereas OP gets more than minimum
