Does this seem too low a net wage ?

I am paid £16775 per year. Got my first full wage this month, have come out with £1125 take home pay, is it just me or does that seem incredibly low ? I was expecting at least £1250.

What does it say on your payslip? Do you have student loans?

I am yet to receive the payslip but I am going to speak to HR today. I have student loans but don't earn enough to pay anything and I have sent them proof of income.

In my old job i earned £15885 and came out with £1132 so there must be a mistake.

That sounds right to me. I'm a care home manager, my staff earn that and that is indeed what they clear. You can put the salary into salary calculator online though and it should give you an accurate break down.

Pension contributions?

It'd be 1245 with only tax and NI taken off (assuming you have the standard tax code) so it sounds like pension. You shouldn't be paying back a student loan if you earn less than 18/25k depending on when you graduated. Did you have any sick days or unpaid leave days?

Sounds about right to me. You’ll be surprised how even though your salary annually is more, tax also goes up and really takes it toll on your take home pay. It’s why I hate tiny pay increases because it makes next to no difference when the tax man pinches it all.

I work in a high school as a cover supervisor, is that likely to be pension then ? I was expecting 1245, that's in part why I changed jobs.

The wage is going up by 6% in April though which is a big rise but lots of posters on Mumsnet aren’t happy about that for some reason.

with no complications - and no pension contributions - your monthly take home would be £1,245.24 for that salary.

did you have a P45 from your last job? if not you could be on an emergency tax code which means that they are deducting tax as if you have no entitlement to a tax free allowance.

alternatively you may have been added to a pension scheme by default, but it would have to have standard employee contributions of more than 10% which would be unusual.

It's awful what gets taken out every month. My Mum is a nurse and loses £1,000 per month in tax and contributions.

@Newmetoday is that 6% to minimum wage? If so maybe posters arent happy or bothered because we earn more than minimum wage anyway? It’s just never enough. Can never be paid too much

INXS998 while I sympathise, you'd have a shock in many other European countries. UK tax is pretty low. My pre tax pay is 2304€ per month and I what I actually get is 1307€ .

That's on an annual pre tax salary of 29500€

Nobody can answer this without seeing your payslip. Once you have this is should give you everything you need

It's even lower in other countries you are right, it's still crap though. I am applying for a full-time teaching job, got the interview end of Feb and that pays £24,3700 starting salary so hopefully i'll come out with about £1500 if I get it ?
