which job would you take?

I am lucky enough to be holding two job offers and cannot choose which one to take. Posting here for traffic.

Job A - nearer to home, an area I have more experience in, less stressful but less money (about £300 a month), a small, friendly work place, I could start the job and know what I need to do, might only be for 12 months and then have to renegiotate a new contract. I'd enjoy this job because it's familiar as well as being a challenge.

Job B - good training options, permanent, more money, longer hours and more stress, a higher grade. A steep learning curve and a more demanding job but a challenge which I'd enjoy. A very large work place. Involves a couple of responsibilities which I don't like the idea of but would have to do.

Depends whether you want to coast or be challenged.

What do you want out of work at the moment, for me it would be B without hesitation but my priority is career development / progression after many years stagnating post kids. If you're still in the family as priority stage, A may be easier. Although if it's only for 12 months that would be a downside IMO.

Job B. More money and you'll be challenged, also it's a permanent role

Congrats by the way. Did you hear back on the day of the interview? I had one today, was told they were hoping to decide today. I've heard nothing Sad

What are the commutes like? £300 a month can quickly get eaten by travel and lifestyle creep to make your life easier on long hours: convenience foods, cleaner etc

It sounds like you would prefer job A but it depends what you're wanting from work.

Any chance of negotiating a higher salary or permanent role/ longer contract for job A?

whichjobwouldyoutake · 07/02/2020 18:53

The commutes are about the same, maybe 5 minutes difference. No, it's unlikely that job A would be able to pay more or give a longer term contract as it's a small scale operation and run on a tight budget. Job B is on a tight budget but it's a larger organisation.

I had the interview for Job B yesterday and heard today, the company with Job A offered me the job on the strength of a mutual contact who'd recommended me.

I've made a list of pros and cons and I think job A is winning.
