About to start full time work - what do people normally do when a home repair needs to be done or a delivery is expected and both of you are out of the house and don't work locally?

I just work from home that day, but if it's a job where you can't WFH then use a half day/full day annual leave. It depends what the done thing is at your workplace so the best thing is to ask your manager first before arranging anything.

Depends on the job.

Home repairs: we schedule for a day that one of us doesn’t have any meetings in and then ask work if we can work from home.

Deliveries: something big like a sofa, as with home repairs. Something from ASOS: either get it delivered to work, ask them to drop in with a neighbour or I pick up from the depot/sorting office.

If you can’t work flexibly or WFH I imagine you need to use annual leave or swap shifts etc.
