I have an interview in two weeks for a grade 7 civil service role. I'm currently in a role two grades below but have been covering a role a grade higher for the past year on Mat leave cover. It is an internal promotion within a different directorate. I'm desperate to progress and would like any top tips from mumsnetters!

It is a new role and they want a ten min presentation as well. Please give me your wisdom!

What else do you have to do aside from a presentation?

Basically what you need to do is firstly demonstrate your suitability for the grade, and then be the best in that pack. Do you understand the difference between SEO and G7?

Don’t worry about your substantive grade if you’ve been covering SEO.

Can you give any info or even a broad theme about what the presentation is about?

Key principles

  • minimal info on any slides
  • 4-5 slides max
  • rehearse sufficiently that you only need the slide materials as a 'hand-rail' - don't read from them as you'll come across a bit 'wooden'.
  • you need to demonstrate you know your stuff and confident at delivery.

Thanks for the replies - the title of the presentation is effective stakeholder manager and engagement for a publicly owned asset (snappy!) 10 mins not technology so verbal delivery, the rest are experience based questions.
