Part-time work - 4 full days or 5 shorter with older kid (11)?

I've been working at home for four years, and atm I home educate my 11-year-old. In Sept he's going to secondary school. My partner works at home.

I've got an interview for a job on Monday which is part-time and I can't decide what I'd rather do

  • work 4 days 9am-5pm
  • or 5 days 9am-2.30pm ish

On the one hand I feel like I want to be around with my son after school, and not have that whole mad dash to make dinner as soon as you get in from work. Also I could go to the gym after work if I wanted to and still be home by 5ish.

On the other, loads of people say having a day off to yourself is amazing. Which I'm sure it would be.

But the thought of working a full day in an office is freaking me out after having loads of flexibility working at home for the past four years. Help!

It's personal preference
You have the wonderful advantage of your partner being at home, so you have no worries about your ds arriving home to an empty house.

I would prefer a whole day without work, but it is just going to be personal.

I'd work the 5 days, leaving at 2.30.

I volunteer (I am a SAHM) and my day technically finishes at lunch so 12.15 but I stay and have lunch with a lovely group of people then leave at 1.15pm. It is bliss not slogging it out until 5pm.

I'd rather have every day leaving early than 1 full day off. The whole working till 5 thing would be the killer for me. You would be half way through the afternoon and thinking I could have left now.
