Interview comments - what does this mean?

Hello,

I recently applied for a job. In the industry jobs are obtained largely through recruiters and head hunting. However, I have not worked in the industry before so I sent my CV to one company who said on their websites they are always looking for people sort of thing.

This led to them offering me a test. I was successful at this test and was offered an interview which I had today. I thought it went okay but then at the end the director said “we are interviewing other candidates with only a limited number of positions available so will let you know the outcome in a couple of weeks”. - am I right to take this to mean I have been given the brush off? I am not sure why they would be interviewing other candidates when they don’t seem to actually be advertising for roles - nothing on LinkedIn or on their website. It’s entirely possible they could have had people randomly submitting their CV like me.

I would say it's a genuine comment. If they've interviewed you, they should get back to you with a yes or no, when they've completed the process.

They may also be interviewing internal candidates, so don't assume everyone will be responding to an external ad.

Good luck Smile
