Wondering if new job isn’t quite right for me...

I started a new job in September last year and while it was initially good, after a few months the scales have fallen and a lot of issues within the team are becoming apparent. It’s a huge global company and a lot of transformation is required, but it’s so massive and entrenched in process that it’s very frustrating. The benefit is that they pay well, so everyone stays and just rides along. I have been looking around other posts on the market lately, but nobody pays as well. Has anyone any advice of trading job satisfaction vs pay? I feel like people will say I’m mad to leave.

How important are the two factors to you?

Do you absolutely need to earn that level of income; or are you able to trade lower salary for better job?

If the former, can you make a deal with yourself that you'll ride it out for (say) 2 years to cash in, then move?

If the latter, then jump ship as soon as you find something that gives you the satisfaction. And what is your criteria for job satisfaction? Could same job, part time be an option, for example? Or do you have a burning passion to "make a difference"? Or something else?

It's a multi-faceted problem you need to consider all angles of.

I’ll be honest i went for the money because I’m a single mum, and it was a great career step.
I like my field, and today I saw a great job advertised that fired me up, but it’s a 30m commute. Money wise 2k less a year so I think there could be negotiation and maybe some days working from home... I think I just dont want to look like I’m job hopping. There’s just no creativity or flair to the job I’m in, it’s so corporate and soulless. And people will think I’m crazy for leaving, but money isn’t everything as I’m finding out.

For 2k a year I wouldn't stick somewhere that unpleasant. If it was 20k, then I'd think about making a deal with the devil.

A 30min commute is nothing, why have you put "but" before that?
You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by applying.

If you can negotiate, think about hours as well as salary - then try for 8-4/7-3/10-6 etc - childcare at only one end of the day and you avoid rush hour.

WFH is all well and good but some employers still see it as a bridge too far, esp for a new joiner.

Ask for higher healthcare/pension conts/interest free season ticket loans.

And to jump around a bit, if you get asked about the short stint in interview, just say it wasn't the same role you applied for and you wanted to cut your losses and move into a job that was far more suited to your skills.
