Commission based job / return to work after maternity

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has experience of working in a sales job, in my case is recruitment, and how to get back on meeting targets after return from maternity leave.

My company is really small and I am the first person going on leave. I am currently earning well on commissions, however during my absence my clients will be passed over to colleagues and I don’t see/expect them to be given back to me after my return, or anyway straight away after that. This means I will likely have to start building back from scratch and in a slow market as it is for us (my company being small means also that we don’t get many new clients very easily and competition is really tough) I am worried it may take a long time for me to meet my targets. This on top of the fact that with a newborn at home it will certainly be all more stressful. So I just wanted to know if anyone has experience of how it works when you return to sales job after maternity, if usually you would get your clients back or what sort of tolerance there is if you struggle to meet your target (i.e. can they fire you for bad performance after 3 months?).

Thanks all in advance.

I’m going through this now after 1 week of my return i was a account manager with a portfolio and was replaced in 3 weeks time they will reshuffle portfolios however for the next 3 weeks i have to do business development and get no extra pay. My confidence is down. I understand the reasons however it’s really challenging for me. I was wonder ing if you have any advise I have a meeting with my boss which I have anxiety about. Jess
