Telephone Interview

I have a telephone interview tommorrow am. I've just come out of hospital and very very lethargic and a bit miserable, obviously want to make a good impression. It is a sales based position so need to be enthusiastic, jolly and "sell myself" Any help appreciated, also perhaps words phrases I could use to sound like I know what I'm talking about.

Can't help with the phrases but would suggest you dress up anyone (will make you feel smarter), stand while talking, and smile - you can hear it in the voice.
and good luck

jooleybee · 29/08/2007 13:04

thanks for that 'll let you know hoe I get on......

damn - was going to post exactly what waynetta did. Its amazing how much difference standing up in particular makes. And yes, dress as if for an interview. Not sure on the phrases having never done sales - sorry!

RubySlippers · 29/08/2007 13:05

write down a few key phrases and stories which demonstrate your selling successes, and keep it near you
good luck

RubySlippers · 29/08/2007 13:06

talk about how you hit and exceed targets
how you can motivate a team
customer service stories

And get your voice going well before the call so that you're not croaky, sing along with something upbeat on the radio.

saladsucks · 29/08/2007 13:12

focused/driven/ambitious/achiever (sp!)/ organised/committed/(dedicated)/"results driven"/team player/self-motivated/flexible/pragmatic/logical/diligent/determined

saled based position - I think they will want to check your telephone manner, your attitude and your committment.

they may also ask -
why you want the job
why you want to work for that particular company
why you left your last job
where you see yourself in 3/5 years

jooleybee · 29/08/2007 13:16

Wow, I feel better already. Havn't ever 'knowingly' had a sales based position, it is not hard selling its basically encouraging clients to visit a website. Its a new company so I am quite excited about the job and feel "it would be me" I feel confident I could "sell" something I actually believed in and was confident about. Thanks everyone.

good luck. come back and tell us how it goes.

WaynettaSlob · 29/08/2007 13:27

And make sure you take the call in a room that is free from distractions (like mirrors, or maybe that's jsut me )
and have a notepad and pen ready and jot things down.
Oh, and have you seen the job spec? Make sure you can talk to the various roles and skills mentioned (just happen to drop them into conversation)

And have an answer to the "what are your weaknesses" question (I tend to favour things like expecting everyone to deliver a 110% performance )

HAve the person's name written down so you can refwer to it.
And have you agreed who will call who?

WaynettaSlob · 29/08/2007 13:28

And say stuff like this "I am quite excited about the job and feel "it would be me" I feel confident I could "sell" something I actually believed in and was confident about." (ie what you've already said!!

flowerybeanbag · 29/08/2007 19:54

jooleybee good luck with it!
Try and smile a lot while you are on the phone, it really makes a difference to your voice, and yes dress up that's a good one.

WaynettaSlob · 30/08/2007 12:18

So, how did it go???

jooleybee · 30/08/2007 12:23

Well, on phone for half an hour! waffled a bit to begin with then managed to calm down and was just myself. Kept smiling, prepared myself by singing, only song I could think of was "I'm dreaming of a white christmas"!!!!!! but, I've got an interview tommorrow!!!!! So......any interview tips as all your telephone tips were obviously spot on, thank you all. He wants a mature bubbly etc etc, so I want to look smart but also sort of trendy, do tou think? x

Also, can anyone tell me how I enter my profile on mumsnet?

fridayschild · 30/08/2007 12:28

well done!

I would go for smart over trendy myself at interview. The bubbly can come out in your personality and evident enthusiasm

flowerybeanbag · 30/08/2007 14:37

excellent well done! See here for some interview tips jooley. Definitely go for smart in terms of outfit, bubbly means personality.

Good luck!
