Alternatives to PowerPoint?

It's a 5 minute presentation on something like 'what will you achieve in 6 months and how will you measure success?'

I'm after some alternatives to a PowerPoint. I'm wondering if I need anything at all?

But I'd like to have something, perhaps a handout, because whilst the presentation is 5 minutes, I'm sure there will be extensive discussion afterwards and it would be good to refer to something. But PowerPoint just seems a bit obvious! Confused

Any thoughts?

What group are you presenting to? It'll be different for a peer group at uni and a group of senior managers in a corporate environment.

Where are you presenting? Use whatever is compatible with the tech there

It's an interview to senior managers in a corporate environment.

Just stick with PowerPoint but make it look professional.
Whenever one seen people use something else it's just looked gimicky. Also, at least you know PowerPoint works whereas you run the risk of something new not being compatible.

The presentation should not be the main focus anyway - what you say and how you say it is the most important thing.

*I've seen

I’ve used Prezi in the past. Some people hate all the swooping about but I like it.

Prezi gives me migraines

prezi.com

Yeah, my colleague said it gave her motion sickness Grin

I used to like prezi and still do for some stuff but it has major accessibility issues so in education now its a no no.

I dislike PowerPoint do I've switched to using Microsoft sway. It's quick and easy but takes a but of getting used to.

I work at a university and prezi was THE big thing years ago but I don't know anyone who uses it now.... accessibility is a big issue.

As a career guidance professional my advice would be to stick to what you know in an interview. Don't make it more stressful by using technology you aren't familiar with!

Use Powerpoint, but as sophisticatedly as you can: e.g. automated transitions/ full page images with a single line of text, something graphically powerful that still conveys the message, but without dreaded bullets.

Sway? Haven’t used it myself yet but it’s in office 365 and looks good

Mumteedum · 12/01/2020 17:36

Yeah sway is weird. It's somewhere between a website and a presentation app.

Follow the template for presentations and it's quite nice and fast. You can do other things like online portfolios or newsletters etc too.
