How can I move up from care assistant

I completed level 2 in health & social care in college and then had 2 babies. I’ve now got a job as a care assistant in a care home.
How would I be able to move up the career ladder from here?
At the moment im unable commit to university, except maybe the open university. But I’m unsure if employers take them as serious?
As much as I love my babies I do wish I had gone to uni before having them. I just feel now as if I won’t be able to get a good job

Are you looking at possibly care management or nursing as the step up.

Care management would not require a degree. The next step would speak to your employer and see if they'll support you to do level 3 and possibly progress to senior carer.

Level 3 is easy to do on the job and isn't very time consuming.

The stage after is to do level 4/5 vocationally and then I to deputy and manager roles.

Employees most certainly do accept a degree with the OU! I have one, and I'm a university lecturer now.

How about nursing apprenticeships?

Is it the care sector you want to progress in or to have a change of career entirely?

OU degrees are not seen to be any lesser than degrees obtained from brick universities.

Another vote for the OU I did my degree PT with them over 6 years so took a while but I'm now a teacher. The course lecturers were so supportive. Just look at it this way you have any maternity leaves etc now all done & dusted with so you now have plenty of time to focus on your career

Is there a hospital near to you? You could become an auxiliary nurse, then see if your hospital is doing apprenticeship nursing degrees as they are coming back. Means you work whilst learning and earning money
