Hi all,

Have NC for this just because I don’t want it attached to my normal posting.

A family member is setting up a business relating to a specific area of home renovation/improvement. They have a very strong background in this area having worked for some very big names previously in the capacity of financial director, so there is every chance it will be a successful profit making business.

Part of their online offering is obviously going to be a website and various social media accounts. They were hoping to have a blog as part of the website which they can then share links to via their social media so that there is some substance to their online presence.

We discussed some ideas for content on this blog and I suggested that some outlines for blog posts.

For example; Discussion of the context of some of the art movements and how they have influenced interior design and still do to this day. E.g. arts and crafts - William Morris, Liberty, etc. I anticipate that we would be able to include some photographs that include their product/service but also tie into the theme of the post.

A further post example was about the movement to renovate a lot of the brownstone style houses in New York, with a spotlight on some that have been beautifully finished - similar finishes being possible by relatives company, etc.

Family member has now asked me to actually write these posts for them which I feel I am capable of doing, but they have said that they’re not in a position to pay me at the moment while things get off the ground. It has been mentioned that they intend to reward those making a a contribution at the beginning with possible shares or ongoing employment.

Now my first degree was arts related so it’s not too much of a stretch for me to produce this work. But it will take time and I will need to do bits of research, source appropriate images, etc.

I currently work full time in an unrelated industry, but desperately want out and family member has said that depending on how well things take off, they may be able to employ me in future to manage their social media and e-commerce platform full time.

What I’m wondering is what the monetary value of these sort of posts would be? And how do think I can advocate for myself without getting taken advantage of?

Family member is very reasonable, FWIW.

Thank you.
