Internal comma

I have done some internal comms as part of my previous role and I really enjoyed it.

Does anyone on here work in this area? Apart from shadowing a colleague, are there any courses that you would recommend?

I have seen the institute of internal communications website but don't know if those qualifications would be s good investment.

Hello, my role is Head of Internal Comms for a public sector organisation. What job do you do at the moment? Comms is a pretty competitive field. Many people join as graduates in a 'junior' or 'team assistant' level role and work their way up. Typically, their degree will be in English, journalism, PR, marketing, or similar. It is also possible to move across into Comms from another role, but you may have to be prepared to start at a lower level than you are at the moment. Have you spoken to the Head of Comms at your organisation for advice?

The IOIC qualifications are very good and also CIPR. They are really aimed at people already working in a Comms role though.

Thank you VioletCharlotte. I was executive assistant to the chief exec and help draft comms for her, liaising with the divisional internal comms person.

Now I am in a different PA role (maternity cover ended) and I need to think about my next move. There are other internal comms colleagues in other business streams I can talk to, so I'll start there. It's interesting you say it's competitive as I rarely see roles come up internally!

I'm a Comms Manager and have worked my way up from a non-comms role. I have a MA in English but no qualifications in comms, although there's lots out there. I love my job. Does your current place have an comms department?

Thanks KurriKawari. Yes, there are several comms people but they are spread out throughout the different business streams so it's not very cohesive. I'll have a chat and see if I can do some work shadowing to get more insight.
