Dream job come up while on mat leave

My first baby Is 4 months old and I went on mat leave saying I’d return to my old job. Since I’ve had baby I realise there’s no way I can go back to my old job as it’s 6 days a week including going back every evening for a couple of hours and on call for emergencies 24 hrs 6 days a week. Today they’ve advertised for a job that would be a promotion. I’m 75% sure I’d get it and it’s the job I’ve been hoping for for 2 years however it’s 5 days a week 8-4 ish. I could get childcare 3 days a week so wondering wether to ask if they’d consider part time? I didn’t really want to go back this early, my paid leave runs out in April so wanted to stay off until at least then but this is a job I’ve wanted for a long time. We’ve also just started our own business which I’m doing all the paperwork etc for so as well as a young baby I’ve got that to fit in somewhere! Just wondered if anyone else had gone back earlier than they wanted or went back part time and if you get enough family time?

You should apply, if its with your current employer they should allow you to start at the end of your maternity as you cant be passed over for promotion just because you are on maternity. Back in the real world id offer an early return maybe part time to start with - not before LO is 6months though they would be expecting applicants to have notice periods between 1 and 3mths anyway. I don't really understand why you would need part time in the long term as the hours are near perfect for most parents and brilliant conpared to your current job. What was you planning on doing for childcare when you went back to your current role?
