Hi everyone,

I’m a bit of a lurcher but was wondering if anyone can help me out please? I have an interview coming up but can’t find any example questions anywhere. Does anyone work for PALS and if so can you remember some questions you were asked please?

Many thanks x x

Not PALS but complaints in a medical setting.

I would be asking you to tell me about a time when you have had to help someone who was angry or upset. How did you deal with it, what made it difficult. Did it go well and if not, what did you learn from it.

Also maybe something about how you show understanding and empathy without promising things you can't deliver.

They might ask about how you will interact with lots of different sorts of people - I imagine PALS involves speaking to clinicians, ward managers, admin staff and everything in between - can you demonstrate by an example that you are confident in talking to a variety of people to gather information.

Have you worked in a similar or associated role before? Most NHS interviews in my experience have focused on how you would or how you have dealt with certain situations and ask you to give examples of a time when you have had to do xyz.

That's possibly true of a lot of jobs but I've only ever worked in the NHS!

Good luck, hope it goes well.

That’s brilliant thank you, I worked in customer care in the energy sector for 16 years and have worked in the nhs for the last 12 months x

Different NHS organisation here but may be relevant - we are moving towards value based interviews or a mix of value based and skill based questions.
So essentially, I would look up the Trust’s values (website will have them) as they all differ slightly (things like ‘focus on quality of care’ and ‘every contact counts’ etc) and prepare some examples of how you can demonstrate meeting those values in your previous work experience etc.
Good luck :)
