Redundancy

I need some advice re redundancy and sick pay.

I have been told that my job has gone and I am under threat of redundancy. I have asked for redeployment to a couple of vacancies internally but haven't heard anything back from them. I have appealed the redundancy based on process and selection but it's been unsuccessful so far

However I have had a bad fall and have been told that I need an operation in the next couple of weeks to rectify the issue and will have to take 8-12 weeks to recuperate and off work.

Normally my sick pay would cover this without an issue but it's in the next 8-12 weeks that I would be made redundant if I didn't secure a new position under redeployment. What I'm not sure about is if they can do this ie make me redundant or does this stop the redeployment as I'm off sick and then start again when I'm back at work

Does anyone have any advice here as I can't find anything out on our HR documents.

They don’t have to keep you employed longer because you happen to be off sick, no. You are presumably being considered for the posts you’ve applied for, and the only thing I can see making any difference is if there is an interview for these posts and you are not well enough to attend, in which case you may find they ‘pause’ things temporarily.

If you are redeployed to a post while off sick, it just means you’ll return to that post when you go back to work.

Thanks. That's really useful. I'm not sure they will have interviewed me in the next couple of weeks there may be some effect here.

Ok so you need to make sure whoever will be interviewing you is aware, and ask whether an interview can be scheduled for some time during the next couple of weeks.
