Job offer....salary?

LoveNote · 04/11/2019 12:27

Half heartedly went for an interview as I’m pretty fed up on current job

Didn’t believe I’d get it so didn’t enquire about salary really. Just got an offer via email

How do I ask about salary before I accept.... want it to be worded well

Any ideas before I just blunder in? On reflection I feel I want the job now as it feels a good fit

Its not an offer if it does not include the salary! Even an email offer should state the pay. Ask them.

Yes absolutely, asking what the salary is is not in any way shape or form cheeky! Just reply thanking them for the offer and say please can they clarify the salary and main terms and conditions, which you will consider and get back to them asap.

I'm assuming it just said 'competitive salary' or the like on the advert (check this!)? If so and they've offered a job without giving salary details then they're the cheeky ones. I would even go as far to say that if this info wasn't on the ad or the offer and you accepted without clarifying this then they're not a company I would want to work for. At the very least they're unprofessional and at worst they're trying to take you for a mug.

They can’t make you an offer without the actually offer Confused

I’ve had it in writing now. I was too impatient!

Turns out it’s slightly less than current Jon but more room for progression so I’m still considering! I think I’ll go with my gut feeling but need to discuss with Dh later

Go back to them and say that you would love to take the job but disappointed in the salary on offer as it's less than you are currently on. It's totally normal for men to negotiate the first offer. Right now is your strongest position for negotiating; once you are an employee your scope is limited by company policy.

And congratulations!

Yes, negotiate!

Def go back and tell them offer is substantially lower than current package (not salary) and that Although you’d live to accept their offer for it to be financially viable for you, they’d need to offer you £xx - make sure this is £2.5k more than you are on now at least: otherwise it’s not worth the hassle (((personally I’d want £7.5k to move))))
