Promotion in job ... but stressed about the new role and expectations

I am worried and stressed in managing my own workload and having difficulty in adjusting to having freedom to make decisions.

I am worried about letting my manager down. Feel like I don't deserve this and can't do justice to the new role.

It's a very small team and noone I can talk to as i don't want my boss to think I am incompetent.

I have alot of work and am feeling overwhelmed. Highly productive team and boss. Worried I cannot keep up.

How long have you been in new role?
How much of a pay rise was it from previous role?

Its been about a month. I feel like the work won't be too bad it's more the planning.

I've got quite a substantial leftover project that is still on my desk so I do have alot to worry about.

A few thousand more - basically project coordinator to project manager.

I'm not completely useless by the way!

Most people have a learning curve in a new role. They got thru it, I bet you can, too.

I understand this problem as I'm currently experiencing it myself.

I've just left an employment where I was micro managed and every idea of mine was shut down automatically and not even considered (hence my leaving) to an employer who is giving me complete freedom and leaving me to get on without any interference or input from them. I'm two weeks in and only just getting used to the strangeness of it all.

I think confidence in yourself is key, I didn't realise quite how much my self esteem had been battered in my last job until my first day at my new when I put an idea forward, physically cringed waiting for the "No!" and when I was told "that's great, we will do that" my saying "Really? are you sure?". Second week in now and I'm feeling a bit more relaxed and like I belong here.

Go for it, relax and enjoy the freedom.

I can totally relate to this as I too started a new project role about a month ago and I'm finding it really difficult to settle into the new way of working. Having left a very hierarchal job where even a small change like a colour change on a spreadsheet needed approval I'm now in an organisation where I'm given full autonomy to get on with things and sign off contracts and no-one questions it.

I think there is a period of adjustment and a trust relationship needs to build with you and your team. But remember they appointed you this job because they think you could do the job. So take a breather and spend some time making a to-do list and prioritise the things that need doing first. It may also be beneficial to have a catchup with your line manager to let them know how you are feeling and you're taking a bit of time adjusting to the new responsibilities.

Aww thanks for the supportive posts. It's nice knowing other people have been through this and I am not alone in feeling this!
