Notice period

I have a three month notice period with my job. I want to leave to become a teacher which starts next September. Meaning I hand my notice in June. However, could they say 1 months notice is enough and then I’d be unemployed for 2. Or are the legally bound to 3 months. Anyone know?? Thanks

No, if you’re willing and able to work your notice, they have to pay you for it. If they want you to stop work sooner they’ll need to pay you in lieu of notice or place you on garden leave. The only exception would be if the notice period they have to give you is shorter, and they are in a position to dismiss you.
