I've been cleaning for 13 years recently left as thought I had found a new job but was totally wrong. I can't get old job back now and I feel really bad about money just now due to xmas coming and plus planning a wedding etc
My partner works as a carer night shift
Was thinking about completely changing my career and trying out careing

Is there anyone in here that's went from say cleaning to a carer in a carehome and enjoyed it

Looking for something that will.make diffrence and get satisfaction from

Iam kind and careing though I can be shy so wondering if being in a carehome will thoughen me up a bit and maybe bring me out my shell a tad too

There is some cleaning involved as a carer and if you were used to work without anyone watching or being present it will feel odd as the person will be there watching you. Its very very emotionally draining and you get interrupted a lot. Its hardly ever a job and done. The money ia more because the responsibility is shit ton more. Yes some people are easier to care for, sleep ok and may be lovely but so some are very grumpy, scary..even nasty.
The people you will care for wont necessarily be grateful or appreciative, some are very angry. Of course i empathise as some have a lot of pain, mental illness etc but just go with eyes wide open.
Agencies can fuck you up, mess with your rota if you dobt like it... morning staff coming late or not turning up so you cant just leave and may end up doing the mornibg routine... i suggest you go to the same employer as your partner as he might know them.

My partner went from being a cleaner to a carer and absolutely loves it. Hes in a home and not employed by agency

When I left my last job i honestly thought this is it but the job didnt work out turns out I would of been stuck upstairs in a room for the fill shift some days by my self

I'm used to being around people especially when cleaning as the last office I was employed to clean they had staff working till 10pm

Hopefully my partner can ask the manager if I can possibly come in and see what's it's like before I apply

There are a huge lack of carers (or at least good ones!). My dd1 had a night carer 10pm-7pm. She had to be fed and given medication twice but otherwise slept unless she was ill. The carer was there to make sure she didn’t stop breathing (medical condition).
We had 3 carers that fell asleep and every single one had an attitude problem. They turned up late, did the absolute bare minimum (aside from the above they did nothing else, not even wash the bottles) and there are lots of families who go through the same.
You could find a lovely family to work with who would be so grateful for your help.
