Referral - reward?

Sorry if this in the wrong place. I think there used to be a free lance board but I can't find it. I'm not free lance as such but run a small business in a very specialist area.

A former colleague (totally different sector) I worked with 20 years ago has made several referrals to me. I have not met him in all this time and barely remember him He hasn't asked for any recompense. He's now making more introductions. These are worth £6k - £8k each to me and ongoing revenue of around £2k - £3k per year. He is self employed but in a sector where I'm not in a position to repay him by making referrals.

Should I offer to pay him?

Client referrals?
Is there anything you can do for him that might be valuable - recommendations, introductions, exposure, etc?
Have you asked if there's anything you can do for him in recompense?
I think it would be appropriate to recognise what he's done for you.
