Holiday entitlement

I’m trying to calculate my annual leave entitlement. It is somewhat complicated. I’m starting a new job on 21st October. My contact states that I need to take my leave so Ideally I would like to use these at the end of my notice period.

My entitlement was 20 days. I have 7.5 days left until the end of the year. I’m i right in thinking that I have 3.5 days to take?

Many thanks

When does the leave year run from/to? Do you get 20 days per year? Plus bank holidays?

It runs per calendar year. Everything must be taken by 31st Dec.

Yes it is 20 days plus bank holidays. I have also worked part time for 4 weeks, forced by employer, but that has been withdrawn by them as they wanted me to cover for holidays. There were 4 weeks during which I didn’t work Tuesday and Thursday. To make it even more complicated I was on annual leave for a week and a half during this time. When I returned from holiday they told me I have 7.5 days left.

Hope any of this makes sense. Thank you.

if you’ve got 7.5 days until the end of the year, I assume you’ve used 20.5 days so far. Holiday entitlement until half way through October (ie 9.5 months of the year) is 22.17 days you will have accrued by the time you leave. Your employer may put this up to 22.5 as you’ll do a bit more than half a month in October. If you’ve taken 20.5 out of a total of 22.5 you’ll have two to take.

But surely the best thing to do is ask HR where you work to confirm how many days you will have to use up, and then booking them. Do you not trust them to get it right, is that it?

So far o have taken 12.5 days plus bank holidays.

It is a small company, there is no HR. Payroll is done by an external company who seem to be making rather a lot of mistakes.

Aa above, 22.5 days accrued to mid October if youd been full time throughout.youve used 6 bank holiday and 12.5 days so 18.5 used. That leaves 4 days when you finish mid October.

Thank you both 💐
