Strung along

I am so angry . Tried for a job in a place where I used to work - knew all the staff . Was made redundant due to budget cuts - job came up again so applied for it.

Was told I didn't get the job, fine . Wanted feedback as have done job previously . Didn't ask for feedback but was offered. Told to phone back for feedback in 2 days. Phoned back - was told manager was busy and would phone back. Have tried to contact 3 times , gave up. Was approached by manager by email apologising for not getting back to me. Told I would be approached this week. Still nothing. Why bother to offer feedback if it's not available. So awkward! Now I feel strung along and lied to.

Forget the feedback and put it behind you. Sometimes employers are reluctant to re-employ old staff if the organisational culture has changed.

If you've been made redundant and been given a reasonable settlement, they may also be concern it will breed resentment with the remaining workforce to reemploy you.

Don't get hung up on feedback, you may find it's just platitudes anyway. Good quality interview feedback is rare, and it relies on the recruitment team genuinely being invested in supporting unsuccessful interviewees with a view to them feeling encouraged to apply for future vacancies at the organisation. This happens a lot in public sector.

Agree its rare you get thr real reasons you weren't picked. Sometimes its just that they liked someone else more.

If you were made redundant last time its likely that there were reasons you were chosen over others. Sorry op and good luck

It isn’t normal to be “so angry” about lack of feedback, so I imagine what you’re really angry about is not getting the job. It will be because of the same reasons you were selected for redundancy in the first place I imagine. It’s often not a good idea to go back anyway. Focus on finding something new.
