DBS issues

Around 2 years ago, I volunteered for Age UK as a befriender to a terminally ill elderly gentleman. He passed away 6 months later and I stopped volunteering as on the days I want volunteering I did a level 3 teaching assistant course at college. I then applied for an agency and worked for them until I got a fixed term contract in a school. This has now ended so I applied to another agency. They want me to pay for another DBS even though I'm on the update service
The reason they've given is, because I would for Age UK I've been checked on the adult safeguarding database. (?!). I can't understand this as the schools I've worked in since, plus the nursery didn't have an issue.

Can anyone clarify for me please? Thanks

I was not allowed to be a helper on this years Lourdes pilgrimage as my DBS hasn't come back, despite being a paediatric nurse and working with far more vulnerable people every day.

If your dbs only had the adults barred list checked then the agency is right to ask for a new check and all those settings that had children present were wrong to accept a DBS without a children's barring list check.

AFAIK you can’t t use a volunteer DBS check for a paid role.

It depends what their policy is. I don't want to do frequent dbs checks but my regulator insists therefore they can't just decide not to for you.

I have a DBS check (with update) for work - Optometrist
A DBS check every three years for volunteer work with girlguiding.
A DBS check for the pre-school that I'm trustee for.
Another DBS check (with update) for the Bucks CC

It's a complete waste of time and money! Its the same check done over and over again.......so yes I feel your pain.

What sort of DBS do you currently hold i.e. enhanced or enhanced with barred lists?
