From full time to term time

I'll be changing hours from 37pw full time to 30 on a term time basis. I'm trying to anticipate what other things, causing absence, may come up in term time and how that's dealt with. GP appts for example should as far as possible be outside work time or at the end or start of a day. What about INSET days - if you work term time, do you take unpaid leave? I heard of one arrangement where an employee worked term time but had an additional 10 days annual leave. Would be interested to know experiences. Thank you.

What setting are you working in? I work term time in a primary school. 38 weeks per year. Headteacher is flexible about things like hospital appointments. I usually make the time up as I only work 26 hrs.

As for training days I don’t work them as only do 38 wks but have done in the past when my contract was 39. All depends on your contract.

For inset days I would try to find a working parent of one of their friends willing to have your dc on inset days (which are tricky for all working parents) and in return you look after their dc for an equivalent number of days in the holidays.

I work term time no inset days so dentist / GP appt in holidays if possible; after school if not.

Where I work you'd be expected to make childcare arrangements for INSET days, you generally get plenty of notice.

Medical appointments should be made outside of work time where possible but if it's not we're pretty flexible.

If you can negotiate an extra ten days' leave, I'd expect that to be unpaid (and almost certainly not in a school!)
