Long story short - A few weeks ago one of my colleagues was dismissed from the company after several warnings and then an incident where he was deemed to have been negligent. I know this colleague well and often meet up with him socially outside of work (we have shared interests).
I was speaking to my manager last week about something unlreated and out of the blue she asked if I was interested in X position (the position that my colleague was dismissed from). I said yes thinking I didn't stand a chance. The interview was today and they've offered it to me! How on earth do I tell my friend/ex-colleague? I know they'll find out (through other staff) sooner or later so I'd rather it came from me (but not making a fuss or a big deal of it at the same time). This is awkward
