Working Away From Home?

Hi Ladies
Do any of you busy mums ever have to work away from home? I used to do lots of travelling before my dd was born - 22 months ago! Since returning from maternity leave I've been pretty much office based but now I've a few overnight trips (of two or three days each) on the horizon that I just can't get out of. I am absolutely dreading it!!!!! Any advice? Why oh why oh why didn't I marry for money - then I could give up my career and stay at home all the time!

DH travels less than once a month, and I do 3 or 4 trips a year. We are just matter of fact about it, and the DSs accept it. DS1 likes to "count the sleepovers" till his parent will be back. And on that other fab thread someone suggested that your child give you the second-best toy, or some Thing for you to look after while you are away.

plus 30 - I travel every 2 weeks and have ds1 aged 4 1/2 and ds2 who is 1 1/2.

It the begining i really did not enjoy it and actually HATED it. However, my DH then gave me a jolly good talking to and said

"darling, you are staying in a nice hotel, with a pool and a spa. Go and enjoy it. Open a bottle of wine from the minibar, watch a movie. Have a face pack and do your nails or whatever you like, and revel in the fact that no one will wake you up at 2 am wanting some attention.."

He had a point I conceeded, and now I see my trips as time when I make sure that i get some me time. It might be half an hour to wander round the shops between meetings, to meet an old friend for a drink in the evening (used to live where I go on trips to) or just to veg out. I miss the children desperately and now they call me and ask when I am coming home. The answer is usually "tomorrow" as I really try not to be away for more than one night. As such I don't get tears and my eldest says "you go off and havea nice time mummy, I've got Daddy to look after me"...

the person its hardest on is you....take care of that and you'll get through it. Good luck
