Lawyer >>> new career?!

Hi there.
I’m a lawyer in London. Work full time, long hours. Used to enjoy it but now with three kids I find the juggle so hard. I also essentially pay to be at work once I’ve covered childcare (two still home full time, one at school) and travel and other costs associated with working. Also, whilst I love the interaction with colleagues and some of the work, it’s stressful and gives me terrible anxiety. I don’t know what to do. Step away and do mummying for a few years, change career, do some sort of alternative qualification. Has anyone found a career after the law that has worked for them? My specialism is employment. Thanks!

Are you in private prac OP or in-house? If the former I’d suggest looking at in-house opportunities. The hours are far less gruelling and if you pick the right industry the salaries can be substantial for a GC position.

In-house - financial services 😬

How about Government Legal Dept? You'll get your work/life balance there. We have lots of in house lawyers both civil and criminal. It doesn't seem to matter what field of law you came from so long as you're qualified, eg one of the criminals lawyers I work with came straight from private practice as a civil lawyer.

Is the work life balance as good as they say in GLD?
