Other interests clause in part time contract

Been offered a part time job (2 days) but contract says that I cannot be employed elsewhere at any time without prior agreement. Seems a but harsh for a part time job, especially as I have a casual job elsewhere that I have signed a contract with a minimum term clause due to training costs that they pay for.

How best to discuss this before I sign the contract with this new employer?!

It would be unreasonable of them to withhold consent for another part time job that doesn’t interfere with your primary job, but unless it’s a conflict of interests in terms of what the job actually is, they’re unlikely to withhold consent.

I had a similar issue. I’d accepted a 1 day/week job employed TTO status and received the contract which said I cannot work elsewhere.

I have my own business and also did occasional work elsewhere for my professional body. I just asked them to remove the clause and they did.
(Incidentally, I no longer work there!)
