Work from home - is it all a scam??

Hi, I'm due back to work soon. I've been trying to see if there are any work from home, flexible hours etc positions available.

All these mad flashing web sites appear telling me for a small fee they will make me up to 2000 dollars (!) a day.

What I want to know is are any of these schemes for real. i.e. one you don't hand over your visa card for...

Can you get employment typing or whatever, and has anyone any real experience of it. I only fancy doing something like typing or research.

hi mum2d, tell me about it!!! i have been looking for work from home stuff for moonths as i have moved miles away from friends and family and i have no one to look after baby if i go out to work.they are all a con. the only thing i found is a website www.keen.co.uk/. You can register as an advisor with them for free. the idea is that you offer your expertise over the phone or email for a fee. if you have a qualification in something you can sell you r advice.....if not you can simply offer friendship,relationship advice or if you are gifted, as a phycic! I wasnt sure at first but the people who call you load call time first, like you do with mobiles, so they cant run up huge bills so its fair for caller and advisor. you set you own fee per minute and keen take 30% of the total charge. you get paid by cheque. its free to register so u got nothing to loose.

what about becoming a childminder , i used to do it it brings in income and you still at home mith your own kiddies xx

hi kt, childminding is a good idea, dunno about mum2d but im in a rented house at the mo and i remember when my mum was childminding she had to make alterations to doors etc, also people from my partners work have to stay here and anyone staying with u has to be crb checked...... sooooooo annoying.

yes but not much income and then think of the responsibility of looking after other people's brats as well as your own! Ugh, don't go there.

I've thought about writing a book (yeah, right!) or even doing Xstitch birth thingies for new parents. Or teaching kids from home but that won't work because the dc will be at home (scream, fight, Mummy! every 5 seconds) when I'm trying to teach... A friend of mine sells baby booties and has a bunch of grannies knitting for her. It's very successful, surprisingly.

yeah ebay can be a good little earnier too. you can buy stuff wholesale online and sell via ebay once you havesolds all your junk!!

youth work was for lincolnshire couny council i was at the local youth center in my village but you often see adverts in the echco

agree re ebay.

THe thing is with working from home is you actually need to have two or three things on the go to keep yourself afloat. Ebaying is OK but don't invest too much in stuff to sell until you've got the hang of it (and got rid of all your own old junk). FOr the typing/research you could maybe try cards in newsagents' windows offering your services or contacting your local university to see if they would let you put up a card/advert.
WHat specific skills or areas of expertise do you have?

My skills would be typing, recruitment, customer service type things. Not sure I could handle childcare. Maybe an older child, school runs or something as we have a car, but it wouldn't pay much..... I'd love to try ebay. DH would come home from work " sorry honey, i sold the kitchen table so I could say home another month!... good ideas though so far. keep 'em coming!!
