When to bring up maternity pay

Hi

I am working for a small company so I am presuming that the maternity pay is going to be the very basic pay however I would like to try and see if I can negotiate anything more and wondering when the best time is to do this and if anyone has done this successfully before.

My manager was a working Mum in a similar position to me now so is very understanding with things like this and I have a very positive relationship with her.

I am an accountant and a year or so ago I was offered another job with a 10k payrise and brought up the better maternity policy, and my manager matched this payrise but no maternity policy was mentioned, however this shows in my opinion that they value me as an employee.

I want to return to work full time and request one day working from home which I am 95% certain wont be an issue, however I would like to see if I can negotiate more pay when it goes to the SMP.

I am not pregnant and not currently ttc however it is something we are considering in the new future and I feel like I want to discuss this with my manager before I get pregnant so I can plan my finances.

Has anyone been in this situation before? Any advice on what to do? How to bring it up and when??

Thanks xx
