How do I get a promotion?

I am fed up of being in shitty paid jobs. My current job is 20k and is the best paid job I've ever had, but it's still far below what I would like to be and below the national average. I don't have a degree, have a useless level 3 qualification, and also a level 3 hr qualification. I'm currently working in an admin position and don't know how to try and progress into better paid roles.

Please help, I'm utterly clueless and very frustrated :(

There are all sorts of big companies advertising for HR roles all the time! If I were you I'd find a big company and go for an HR Business Support role, which should be relatively straightforward to move in to an HR Business Partner role.

HR is quite competitive, it's really hard to break in to and can be just as hard to move up to BP level, certainly within as quick a timeframe as suggested.

If the OP doesn't even have an interest in HR this is not an avenue I'd recommend to go down.

Are you applying for jobs with the salaries you want? That's the first step to progressing.

newmomof1 · 20/06/2019 07:00

How long have you been in your current position? Do you have performance reviews? How have they gone? Has there been an opportunity available for progression, and did you apply?

EBearhug · 20/06/2019 10:56

Is HR the area you want to work in, or just where you have gained a qualification? What have you really enjoyed about the work you've done so far? What did you really hate and never want to do again?

I think if you don't have any enjoyment or satisfaction in what you're doing, you won't do it well enough to be able to progress. And while some fields pay better than others, work is easier if you're getting more from it than just a salary (not that money's not important, but if it's all a job has going for it, it's the wrong job.)
