Changing city?

Hello,

I need to find another job for financial reasons. But even with a higher salary, staying in London we will still have to keep paying high rents as we can't afford to buy. So we're toying with the idea of looking for work in Leeds. If we can both get jobs then within a year we could buy a house and have a better quality of life. Sick with the commute. In my early 50s and if we don't change something now then it's not going to happen.

Any thoughts on making such a move?

Would it be wise to visit agencies in Leeds and get on their books - to show that I'm serious about relocation?

On a separate matter - I've also been applying to jobs here in London but never get a response from the agencies, or any of them calling about roles. Is there anything I can do about this? I imagine there's so much competition out there...

Thanks!

Leeds is amazing. I think it's a cracking plan. You can afford to live up here: not merely exist.

Don't think the competition will be any better or worse in a different city.a I moved back to Manchester from the SE a few years ago. Competition for jobs here was just as bad if not worse! And the salaries a lot worse obviously, but you still get more for your money after accounting for rent and other living costs.

Thanks for responses...

I love the fact that we'd be close to the Dales as I've loved the area since as long as I can remember - yes, even in rain, wind and snow..

Would it be wise to visit agencies in Leeds and get on their books - to show that I'm serious about relocation? Or just keep applying on their websites?

What sort of work do you do, and do the jobs only come up through agencies? It's often better to apply directly to companies.

PA.. yes, I look on LinkedIn. In my experience I've found agencies pretty useless and a waste of time. I found my last role through LinkedIn.
