I started a new job four months ago, going back full time after having my little girl who is now four. The job is in renewable energy and is very interesting. I have a lot of new ideas (which is the brief from my bosses), launched a podcast series and I’m getting on well with people in the company. The marketing team I’m in has five people in it, all sitting in a very cramped space. My boss and the head of dept are good at their jobs and say I’m doing well. My two co-workers are awful. I sit between them. One is a younger man who is friendly when the other one (a woman of my age - late 30s) is not there. He stops talking to me when she is. She has consistently refused to have meetings with me about how our jobs cross over, tells me nothing about her work (even before a holiday), rebuffs questions and keeps up a constant stream of disparaging remarks, singing songs ‘we ain’t seen nothing yet’ and constantly complaining that she gets no help from me behind my back (despite me offering and being cut off), ignoring emails and cutting me out of conversations, tea breaks and meetings, stops talking when I enter the room etc. She arrives after I do, leaves before me, but provides a day long drama about how busy she is compared to everyone else - me. I’m busy too, everyone is. My bosses are supportive of me, in that she doesn’t do it in front of them and they shut it down if she does, but they travel a lot. I’ve called in sick today after lying awake all night and now I regret it, it’s not professional and it’s not me and I have a ton to do. Has anyone else faced this total hostility from someone at work? What did you do?
