What to charge??

I'm about to go freelance, very excited but unsure what to charge as my day rate.

I'm an experienced professional with 15 years experience. Out of work the last 6 months to manage domestic stuff and big house move. Never freelanced before.

A friend in a similar field is charging £400/day but that's for corporate communications in a large property development company. My work will be more likely be for the medical/health sector (large organisations though), possibly some public sector. Is £400 too steep? We are in central London.

I will be writing strategies and managing large budget projects, as well as providing general communications services.

Thanks in advance!

Have you looked into IR35? Public sector contracting is quite tricky.

We hold a central get and local get contract, we have to contract to go onto a framework and then tender by job/contract. So you set a rate for each task.

I think I've got IR35 under control.... will cross that when I come to it

You have to cross it before you set a rate!
