Withdraw job application?

Hi all, looking for some advice about whether or not to withdraw a job application.
I recently applied and interviewed for two jobs - same role but in different places - I have been offered, and accepted, the first job I applied for however this offer is provisional and will be made formal once pre employment checks have been completed. I think I will be hearing from the second job soon however I'm not sure if I should withdraw my application or wait until I have a formal offer from the first job.

Any thoughts?

Wait, what if the provisional offer is withdrawn?!

Well that's my worry, there's no reason it would be but you never know. I'm not sure what to say if I'm offered the second job though, tell them I have another provisional offer or accept and then withdraw if a formal offer is made by the first job Confused

I would ask for time to think about it and hopefully you will get a definite from one pretty quickly.
Although you say it's the same job if you were offered both which would you prefer?
If the second then definitely wait.

@hecateh in all honesty I didn't have a preference, they're both at the civil service just in different departments.
I just don't want to withdraw my application for the second job until I have a formal offer for the first one, but then don't want to get a bad reputation as a time waster if I don't inform the second one that I've already accepted a job in a different department Blush arghh don't know what to do

I would wait until you have the formal offer from the first one. Wait for the second one to get in touch and if they offer you it, say you need a little bit of time to consider. You could even tell them you’ve had another offer through, as if anything it shows you are a good candidate and in demand. It shouldn’t take the first one long to confirm it formally so you wouldn’t be keeping them waiting long.
