Returning to work as an apprentice

Hi, I was a teaching assistant but left the role as I wasn’t happy and decided to do an apprenticeship in admin with a wage of £4.50 an hour. Two weeks after starting this position I fell pregnant and living off statutory maternity is crippling me financially. As a result I am returning to work much earlier than expected. It is outlined that as I am 23 after one year of employment my wages should go up to national minimum wage. I started the apprenticeship last May so of course it would be a year this month. BUT because I began my maternity at the end of January will this result in me having to wait until October after returning from work to be classed as a full year and be put on to a higher wage? Really quite confused by this so if anybody could offer any insight I would appreciate it greatly!
