Correct version - secondment during pregnancy - will I qualify for SMP?

Hi there,
Firstly, sorry for the long post.

I need some advice on my rights regarding SMP, secondment and potential redundancy :( I have been in my current role for 10 months - my employer knows I am pregnant I told them at 12 weeks and I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant.

Last week myself and others were seconded to another company in our network. We were only told the day before we were due to start. It was out of the blue, but the office has been quiet, So I thought we were being sent to help out whilst its quiet.

I’m worried that the secondment letter doesn’t have a return date. Just states the start date and secondment will last for 3 months, when after I will return to my normal place of work.

My employer have told me I will still get maternity pay / leave. I have asked for this in writing to get it officially agreed, but HR has only replied to via email saying
the intention is for me to return. I am still employed by them and they will be arranging and paying maternity monies. We will work to agree dates so that we know what we are working towards.

Is this official enough or would I need a signed letter? I’m just worried they could turn around and cut the secondment short (if its legal?) and then I would really lose out on SMP. I get my MAT B1 end of June and secondment should end in August if it’s 3 months.

If anyone has had a similar experience or could help with any advice I would be so so grateful. I want to get back to HR but thought it would be good to know my options first.

Thanks so much for your help!

SMP is calculated using weeks 17-25 of your pay so you shouldn't lose out on pay.
