Very clingy baby - help...

Ds is now 6 months and very clingy and has been for about two months! He went through a phase of not even wanting to go to his dad but we seem to have come through that one. My problem is that I will be returning to work when he is 10 months and I am told that clinginess gets worse round then. What can I do? I have no family locally and no friends I would leave him with (they are either already back at work or have their own little ones to look after). I tried leaving him a couple of times with a neighbour and he screamed for the entire hour until I got back! Is it worth getting a childminder for a couple of afternoons a week just so ds gets used to being apart from me or should I just bite the bullet when it comes to going to nursery and make do with the 4 introductory sessions? Is there anything else I can do? help?

Well I'm a childminder and I would suggest that you contact a childminder or even 2 and see if you can come and visit for a bit several times a week - without leaving him. Then gradually arrange to leave him for 10 min, 30 min, an hour over a long time....building up.

I think that it would be useful for both of you....that first time only go for a few minutes even into another room and come back as soon as you want. With a bit of work from you and the CM you will feel more able to leave and he will be happier (iyswim)
Good luck
