Redundancy during maternity

Hoping someone wise will offer any advice

Im 8 months into my maternity, been informed Company is restructuring and there is redundancies.

There is 2 of us in our team- (I work in account management) and they are making a post redundant, so essentially there will only be one role.

I have been told we both have to interview for the post.

It was my understanding that as i am on maternity, i should be offered that post and not have to interview for it.

Is that correct or are they allowed to do that?

You've misunderstood a little. The interviewing for your own position is the "selection" stage of the process. If you are unsuccessful and you are provisionally selected for redundancy then you get the right of first refusal if there are any suitable vacancies (I'm an employment solicitor)
