Anyone got any tips on a good template for managing annual leave for a team of 30 in small busy office. Googled +lots of free templates or excel templates- just wondered if anyone has something they are using they could recommend?

My company uses an online thing by Enjoy Benefits. I book days off, medical appointments etc in there and my manager either approves or rejects it. It also has a calendar on so I can see if anyone else has holiday booked. Not sure how much it costs, we also have other benefits with them like gym, childcare vouchers etc

I think for that many people you need some proper software

Yes a workforce management tool.

Or failing that, a spreadsheet with macros.

We have 26 staff and use a staff wall planner and a black sharpie pen.

Holiday Tracker Spreadsheet works well, stored on a Sharepoint site, all staff have read/write access.
Approval process is separate from Tracker.
Best if it is as self- service as possible.

Process is:

  • Staff emails holiday dates to manager for approval.
Can do it via calendar invite, as it's convenient to have dates in staff and manager calendar view
  • Manager checks Holiday Tracker, and approves leave, emails staff,
  • Staff enters approved dates onto Tracker spreadsheet.
  • If declined, negotiation and potential swap with colleague etc.
