Hi,

My son is 15.. nearly 16. He is doing his GCSES and has decided he wants to do an Apprenticeship.

When and how does he apply for these. The school offer minimal support as they are trying to encourage children into sixth form and college.

Also, will he have to apply for the college separation to the apprenticeship placement?

Thank you

Check out www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship which is the government website for apprenticeships. Most seem to be advertised Jan/Feb/March so it's not far off the right time. The other thing to do is to contact companies on spec and see if they have any.

The employer usually finds the course, unless it's something really niche.

Just beware though, although there are some good apprenticeships we saw some really dreadful ones when we were looking for DC.
